No matter your age, there’s something undeniably appealing about colored braces, and kids aren’t the only ones who want them! Whether you’re thinking of getting braces yourself or just looking to brighten up someone else’s day, you’ve come to the right place! In this article, we’ll cover everything you need to know about the colors braces available today and which colors have the biggest impact on our perceptions of a person wearing them.

Don’t worry, they aren’t permanent

The color of braces is just one factor to consider. Color of braces varies depending on your choice, but it’s also possible to get clear braces if that’s what you prefer. There are advantages and disadvantages to each type; in addition, some colors are more popular than others. Here’s a quick breakdown

Types of colors

It’s important to understand that not all colors of braces are created equal. Even if your teeth are stained, dark or yellow, a bold color may not be right for you. Ask your orthodontist to recommend a color. You want your braces to blend in with your smile and create attractive results without making them noticeable. The most popular colors are clear, white, silver and gold; but if you want to wear colored braces, blue is actually one of the more common colors people choose. After all, almost everyone has seen shades of blue throughout their life: from oceans and lakes to cerulean skies and blue jeans.

How to wear braces colors

Have you ever wondered why most adults tend to stick with clear or tooth-colored braces instead of choosing colored braces as their children do? It turns out that adults want a more subtle look, and prefer clear braces. On top of that, only 9% of adults go for color when it comes to choosing new braces. Even more surprising is that those who choose color often change their mind on short notice – with only 45% sticking with what they originally selected at first consultation. Surprisingly, another poll revealed similar results: women are much more likely than men to change their minds after getting a color prescription.

The most popular colors

A recent survey of over 1,000 orthodontic patients found that silver was the most popular color for both colored and clear braces. When it came to colored braces, 53% chose silver, 24% chose purple, 10% chose blue and 8% chose green. The top reason people prefer a certain color is because they think it looks best with their natural teeth color. Silver comes in second as a choice because it’s invisible and supposedly blends in best. Although true invisibility is impossible when you’re talking about metal-colored  cute braces, patients who choose silver do get fewer stares from strangers than those with any other color.

Surprising facts about braces and colors

Today, white is still popular. This can seem a little boring to some people; however, it’s actually an exciting color for braces since most people don’t choose it. The other popular color is clear; dental professionals refer to clear braces as invisible braces. Invisible braces are made of a very thin wire that isn’t usually visible when you wear them. If your teeth are really crooked or crowded, then clear braces might be worth considering because they’re less noticeable than other colors—even though they tend to be more expensive.
