The food that is wasted could be food for the vulnerable. Food banks around the United Kingdom provide food to vulnerable people who need help with their food security issues. These food banks rely on donations from businesses, voluntary groups, and individuals like you.
These food banks would love any donation of fresh food, canned food, or foods past their best before dates that can still be eaten but cannot be sold.
Did you know that every day the equivalent of 7 million meals go to waste? That’s 20% of the United Kingdom’s annual food production.
If you have any old foodstuffs with stickers still on them, please put them out, and they will be collected and distributed to those who can use them. It is these little things that make a big difference to someone else’s life. Donate Food to help the most vulnerable.
You can also download foodbank vouchers online or donate food from your food store. Donate for Food to help the most vulnerable.

If you would like to raise money, then why not hold a food collection party?
Invite all your friends to the event and ask them to bring food items and donations. Think about getting local businesses involved, too, and asking if they would be prepared to donate food items. Make a food collection or food donation for Food and help the most vulnerable.
Take part in food security awareness on Saturday 27th May 2012 by doing a sponsored food item collection. For every food item you bring, you could raise money for your local food bank, charity shop, or school: make sure you drop it in before this date.
This Food Day will encourage people to think about the food they waste and help ensure no one goes hungry when there is so much food to waste: after all, 7 million meals a day add up to 1 billion meals each year across the UK! So join us by donating food then encouraging everyone else to do so too. Make a food collection or food donation for Food and help the most vulnerable.

Foodbanks have been helping people struggling financially since 2008, but have they inadvertently helped fuel the rise in obesity?
