Richardson grew up in Columbia, South Carolina and graduated with honors from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC. She has also worked as a news producer and reporter for CN2 News in Rock Hill, SC. She currently co-directs Left Margin LIT, a literary arts center in Berkeley, California. She is also the author of several books of poetry and fiction.
