Cracked, fractured, fading, or otherwise damaged license plates that obscure the letters and numbers are not acceptable in most places and must be replaced. New or replacement license plates* for your vehicle may be made while you wait at Halfords. If you plan on towing anything or installing a bike rack in the back of your vehicle, let us know and we’ll create you an additional set of license plates such as 3d printed number plates. You may also make your own plates and submit them online (UK only).

Can you tell me what paperwork I need to get a new set of licence plates?
Your new license plates won’t be manufactured until you present the required paperwork into your neighborhood shop. Replacement licence plates need current documentation of your identification and legal ownership of the vehicle’s registration mark. The plates you ordered online are not going to be manufactured until we have validated your identification in person.
One original document from the list labeled “proof of identification,” and one from the list labeled “proof of entitlement,” as needed by the DVLA to verify that you are authorized to display the plate, must be presented in order for us to issue you a valid number plate. The two papers must be able to verify your identity and right to operate the car. In order to prove your identity, we need the following papers:
● Identification Documentation: Driver’s License
● Proof of deposit from a bank or building society issued within the last six months
● Six-monthly or more recent utility, telephone, or Council Tax bill
● National ID card from a state or territory other than the United Kingdom
● bank or building society-issued credit or debit card
● Warrant from the police
● Identification document for the armed forces
● Don’t forget that your name and address must be clearly shown on the identification paper you present.
Eligibility Documentation:
Certificate of Vehicle Registration (V5C) (Please be aware only the new red V5C Certificates are accepted, and not the old blue V5 Certificates)
● Document V5C/2, Tear-Off Slip (V5C section 10)
● Validation of Mark Certificate (V750)
● A Treasured Certificate of Retention for Transfer (V778)
● Renewing One’s Driver’s License (V11)
● Provisional Registration Document (V379)
● A printed, signed Authorization Certificate (V948) from your local DVLA office, or an electronic version of the eV948 that you downloaded. (Sorry, but we cannot process forms that are physically presented to us on mobile devices.)
● A permission slip signed by the people in charge of a fleet. The letter has to include the V5C document reference number.
● If neither of the two papers you brought in with you proves your current residence, we will require a third piece of identification to order new licence plates for you. If you bring in a debit card and V948 to a shop, for instance, none of those documents will verify your address, therefore you’ll need to bring in another document from the list.
Please be aware that these requirements are mandated by the DVLA and that without the proper paperwork, we are unable to provide you new or replacement registration plates.
The eV948
Your PR number plate may be placed on retention with the DVLA online as of March 2015. Receive rapid notification that your personalised licence plate has been retained, along with the vehicle’s new registration number. The DVLA has also issued an electronic version of the V948 certificate (named the eV948). You may have your new licence plate created with the help of this downloadable certificate.
